Our Story

We had lived in Kaslo for a few years; Glen was a pastor and me, Heidi, a full-time mom.  We didn't have much of an income so, I kept coming up with all sorts of great ideas of what Glen could do to help support our family financially.  Perhaps all my ideas were a bit overwhelming for Glen because one day he took me aside and said, "Look, if God called me to clean toilets - I'd gladly clean toilets, but I don't want to be doing something that I am not called to do." Point well taken, but I still had the need to express all my great ideas so I said, "God, you are going to have to be my filter." Well, one day I was looking out the window washing the dishes when out of nowhere the idea of coffee roasting popped into my head, so I said, "God, what about coffee roasting." The response was almost audible, "Not now." So, I zipped it for a few months. Then when we were driving just across the border near Grand Forks on our way for a family vacation I thought about the coffee roasting idea once again and asked the Lord if I could mention it to Glen. The answer was, "Sure." So as we are driving in the middle of nowhere I asked Glen if he would consider having a business of roasting coffee to help support our family financially. To which he surprisingly answered, "Yes, I think I would like that." Then within two minutes Glen saw something on the right-hand side of the road, turned the vehicle around and pulled up in front of Scott Brother's Coffee. That was just the beginning. The Scott brothers have been a tremendous help to get us going, my dad, a retired farmer, made our roaster, our friend Harvey made our cooling tray and many hands made light work in building our shed.
